Trekkers is holding its 9th annual Trekkapalooza event Saturday, January 25th at The Strand Theatre. This year’s “Battle of the Bands” competition will feature six fun and energetic acts. The line-up includes five bands who are new to Trekkapalooza this year. Making their debut performance will be the 3-person band Hologram, with a combination of ukulele, piano and vocals, as well as the punk band Random Ideas made up of triplet sisters from Whitefield. The show will also feature Hafsol, a band that draws influences from bands like Green Day, Rush and Metallica, and the 4- member band Drive By Todd with drums, base, guitar and vocals. The Partials, a skate punk band from the midcoast, and previous Trekkapalooza participant, Connecticut-based The Educators will also perform.
Each band will compete to win a cash prize and the “Bus Band 2014” title. Judging the competition are RSU #13 teachers Alison Machaiek, Michael King and Dwight Blue, and Oceanside High School students Kalie McGuirl and Cole Chase.
The event will start at 7:00pm; doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $10.00 in advance or $12.00 the day of January 25th. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Trekkers office at 207-594-5095. To experience the fun, reserve tickets as soon as possible. In the past, Trekkapalooza has sold out. All proceeds from the show will benefit Trekkers, a youth mentoring organization that serves 7th through 12th grade students growing up in the communities of Regional School Unit #13. Trekkapalooza is a chemical free event for all ages.
