For 9th grade Team Allagash’s January overnight, the Winter Stupor Stopper Slumber, 9 students and 6 leaders headed out after school on Friday, Jan. 15th to spend the night at Camp Kieve in Nobleboro, Maine. The main focus of this weekend was team-building, along with building communication skills and practicing logistics for the Ride Through History core expedition during February school break.
On the way to Camp Kieve, we stopped at Hannaford in Damariscotta to practice our food shop as a group. Students and leaders divided into cook crews for this first task as a team. Once at Kieve, we played some team-builders, such as People Bingo, 52 Pick Up to name a few, and then settled down to make one final behavior decision for the longer expedition.
Our cook crew then prepared “Potatoes, deal with it” for our dinner, while many played games in the main dining area. It was a delicious meal (of course, filled with lots of sriracha for some). We had some more games and had a journal and discussion about what students are excited for and nervous about for the long expedition. We ended the evening watching the Rocky montage on the big screen to prepare for our visit to Philadelphia!
Saturday morning, we woke up and had a team breakfast in the main lodge. We met to discuss further information about the trip, including reviewing a draft itinerary and discussing homework and any other concerns.
We headed back home with students and leaders alike excited to be heading out in a few short weeks!
