On behalf of Trekkers, my sincere gratitude goes to everyone who made Trekkers’ Paddle Art Auction such a successful event. Almost 100 people joined us on a warm summer evening at Watts Hall in Thomaston, and bid over $16,000 on the beautiful paddle artwork. This fundraiser was all about community – our amazing community of artists that came together to support our youth through their work.
Special thanks to Otty Merrill and Jen Mumford for inspiring and helping to coordinate the Paddle Art Auction project. We are also grateful to Maine State Prison Industries Manager Ken Lindsey and the Maine State Prison Showroom for producing the wooden paddles. Thank you for everyone who attended the event, along with all of our absentee bidders!
I would like to thank the following organizations and individuals for their support: The Angela Anderson & Mike Whitehead Duet; Samoset Resort; Thomaston Town Office; Maine Lighthouse Museum for providing the venue for the paddle art display and art walk night in Rockland; FIORE Artisan Olive Oils & Vinegars; Stefanie Mojonnier of Open Sea Design; Michael McGuire; and to the community and visitors for supporting Trekkers by attending this fundraiser.
I also want to thank our two alumni Trekkers, Margaret Hoyt and Elias Edwards-Jenks, who shared what Trekkers has meant to them as part of the presentation. Their stories were a touching tribute to the Trekkers organization and how the program has impacted their lives.
Thank you to all of these local artists for their time and amazing talent in creating the 37 one-of-a-kind, amazing wooden paddle artistic creations that were auctioned off during the silent auction: Angela Anderson, Annie Bailey, Geoff Bladon & HC, David Blanchard, (Elizabeth) Kate Braestrup, Wendy Carr, Kathleen A. Fox & David S. Talley, Jonathan Frost, Anne Goodale, Lily Hamill, Ann Hritz, Alexis Iammarino, Kris Johnson, Lydia Kaeyer, Steve Lindsay, Otty Merrill, Sandra Mason Dickson, Greg Mort, Jon Mort, Chris Moses, Jenifer Mumford, Patsy Munger, Sylvia Murdock, DiTa Ondek, Jordan Parks, George Pearlman, Claire Perry, Mimo Gordon Riley, Jeffrey Rollins, Bjorn Runquist, Marnie Sinclair, Barbara Sullivan, Sarah Tannebring, Greta Van Campen, Thomas Whiting and Amy Williams.
Proceeds from the event will support Trekkers’ youth-mentoring programs, helping us provide 200 students with experiential learning programs. As we complete our 22nd year of mentoring youth from the Midcoast area, I am so grateful for the outpouring of support we receive from the community.
