Susan Grover Joins Trekkers’ Board of Directors
THOMASTON —Trekkers is pleased to announce that Susan Grover of Thomaston has joined the Board of Directors.
Susan was born and raised in Litchfield, Maine and graduated from the University of Maine. While raising her children as a stay at home mother, she was active in community affairs including the Maine Children’s Theater and the Junior League. When her children entered school, she joined the not-for-profit world on a professional full-time basis where she developed volunteer programs in public schools and libraries, ran annual funds and major gift programs in private colleges, served as Director of Development and VP of Advancement for public universities directing capital campaigns and provided overall leadership to the Department of Advancement and the University Leadership. She and her husband recently moved to Thomaston after owning a restaurant and Inn in Belgrade Lakes, Maine. She is honored to have the opportunity to joining the Trekkers Board.
“Susan brings years of experience in development and community engagement, with a passion for the education sector and youth,” said Executive Director, Amie Hutchison. “We are thrilled to have her on our board of directors and are looking forward to her ideas and involvement with our diverse projects and initiatives.”
Trekkers is a Rockland-based nonprofit that works to cultivate the inherent strengths of young people through the power of long-term mentoring relationships. Trekkers utilizes outdoor, experiential, and travel-based education as a means of strengthening resiliency, raising aspirations, defining post-secondary goals, and increasing connections between young people and their communities. Founded in 1994, Trekkers now serves 240 seventh through twelfth-grade students from the Midcoast communities of Owls Head, Thomaston, South Thomaston, Rockland, Cushing and St. George. The Trekkers Training Institute was founded in 2017, and is dedicated to improving outcomes for young people by providing training, coaching and other professional development opportunities on some of the most effective, tested youth development techniques and principles.
