Why Is Trekkers Important?

Since 1994, Trekkers has supported hundreds of young people in Midcoast Maine through long-term, caring mentoring relationships. Students consistently report statistically significant growth in areas of resilience, relationships with others, learning and school engagement measures.

Automatic admission, scholarship to Maine universities

Students in the Aspirations Incubator program, which includes Trekkers, who have a 3.0 grade point average or above will receive a minimum merit scholarship of $500 and automatic admission to the University of Maine at the Orono and Machias campuses as well as the University of Southern Maine.

AmeriCorps Serving Here

Through the AmeriCorps Aspiration Program, Trekkers engages two AmeriCorps members each year to act as group leaders and mentors for youth in Knox County. Working closely with Trekkers’ staff, AmeriCorps members support core programming and expeditions. AmeriCorps is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency that engages millions of Americans in service through its AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs and leads the nation’s volunteering and service efforts.
