Artist Bio

Sixty one years old, chaplain to the Maine Warden Service, author of a number of bestselling books, wife of artist Simon van der Ven, mother of six and grandmother of eight (so far)…and enthusiastic amateur maker of colorful things. 

Artist’s Statement

The desire to make original soft books for my grandbabies has me making fiber collages out of bits of fabric and trim collected over decades. Grandmotherhood brings back such vivid memories of motherhood, and the urge to advise, to pass on wisdom that was so hard won. Sometimes this is useful…sometimes not so much. Subtlety helps, but also humor, humility, and faithful silence.  

My paddle includes vintage fabrics and trims, hand-dyed threads and vintage glass and shell buttons.
